Online Events

Virtual meetings are commonplace in the new normal. There are many tools at our disposal to facilitate our online meeting needs. Zoom, Google Meet, Facetime, WhatsApp and the ever faithful Skype.

When last did you consider the security parameters around your online meeting? If you host , attend or intend to host a webinar, this section is for you.

For the purposes of this training, we are highlighting Zoom's security awareness protocols because we find it a widely-used tool in our business circle. You should always familiarise yourself with your chosen online meeting software's security protocols. Having your online meeting hacked is not only embarrassing but it also undermines the integrity of your organisation when it comes to best practice and your professionalism. This is not a situation you ever want to be in.

Struggling to find your platform's security protocols? Remember Google.

Now, have a look at Zoom's Resource Guide.

Value-added tip: Another consideration when embarking on an online event (host or attendee) is to consider your physical environment.

Be sure to have a distraction-free environment and, before you join the call make sure your workspace is clear of any confidential documents or information. Importantly, if you are a presenter and you need to share your screen, be sure that only have information on your screen (including internet tabs and icons on your desktop) in plain sight that you are entirely sure will not put you, your company or any of your clients or associates in a compromising position.
